NEW Artist: Jakob Iciren
Jakob Iciren is not an artist who can be placed into traditional categories—and that is precisely his strength. Shaped by his time at the University of Art in Vienna, he developed early on an attitude that consistently opposes rigid rules. For him, art is not a system that can be learned and reproduced, but a living, subjective process that is constantly changing.
Iciren often speaks about how a painting does not always need to be understood immediately. Some works only reveal themselves over time, grow alongside the viewer, or even return to the artist himself. A painting he once rejected later found its way back to him—and became a dialogue partner. For Iciren, painting is exactly that: a dance between himself and the work.
This idea is also reflected in his technique. Traditional brushwork takes a back seat. Instead, he works with unusual tools—sometimes even a hammer—to discover new forms of expression. Particularly defining is his use of the pouring technique. In this process, paint is not applied in a controlled manner, but flows, reacts, and develops a life of its own. For Iciren, this is not coincidence but collaboration: a dialogue with the colors, in which artist and material create the result together.
His works carry this energy—raw, immediate, and at the same time deeply reflective. They are open to interpretation, free from fixed meaning, and invite the viewer to engage with them without expectation.
